Win 98se updates
Posted by Trent SC on April 5th, 2004

Can anyone point me to a single source/ftp site where I can download all the
MS Windows 98se updates that have been released? I use XP myself, and a
friend with a pants modem connection has a barebones 98se setup. I'd like
to download and burn all the updates onto CD for him.

TIA

You can get all the critical security updates on CD from Microsoft for free!

http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp

Alternatively you can do it manually from here:

Your friend can order the (free) Microsoft Security
Update CD:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp

Alternatively, you can go to the WU Catalogue page:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp

Fnar fnar - very good

It's a modem connection that's pants. OK?

I thought this was only the security updates, rather than the full
catalogue.

Interesting. Here's a fun one from that site as well:

Plonker : Noun. 1. A penis.
2. Fool, idiot, a despicable person.

Hi °Mike°,

I think I wasn't clear in my earlier response. You're right that I'm
looking for the complete catalogue of updates for Windows 98se. The wording
on the order page for the security updates from MS id fairly explicit:
"The Windows Security Update CD will be shipped to you free of charge. This
CD includes Microsoft critical updates released through October 2003."

I read it as implying that while it includes critical updates, it excludes
others. I could be wrong!

The updates that it carries, as far as I am aware, are
cumulative. From everything that I have read, the update
CD is all you need from a fresh install -- that's the main
purpose of it.
