- Win/Linux question
- Posted by Robert Baer on January 29th, 2004
I am about ready to throw in the towel on M$ OSes, and need advice.
I would like an OS that works in *ONE* partition (which leaves Linux
out), and also allows DOS and Windows programs to run (at worst) as if
they were in their original native environment, including the allowance
for FAT16 and FAT32.
The possible candidates (i think) might be Wine, Lindows or Xandros
Desktop.
If there are fair reasons why one or more of those will not fill those
requirements, please let me know - and suggest another option (and why).

I think at least two of those are ruled out (I don't know what Xandros is).
Lindows is a Linux distrobution. WINE stands for WINE Is Not an Emulator.
It is a set of programs that implement functions from Win32 on other OSs,
predominantly Linux (WINE is a Linux application).
Why is there a problem with multiple Linux partitions? At least, you can
have 2 partitions, one for the OS (mounted as '/') and one as Linux Swap.
Why is this a problem?

The reason is that i am using three partitions to run other OSes,
leaving only one "free".
