- WIN XP Desktop problem - please read
- Posted by jarbar on January 10th, 2005
A spyware program was downloaded onto my computer placing an .html
document over my existing wallpaper. I finally got the program removed and
the picture deleted but now my desktop just has a blank .html document
covering up the wallpaper. I have no idea how to remove this. When I click
"view source" it says "This file is automatically generated by Microsoft
Windows." I don't know what to do. Please help!
Thank you

Right click on the desktop and go Properties>Desktop>Customize Desktop and
click on the Web tab.
Is there anything still ticked in there? Thats the only thing I can think
of.

I suspect that your spyware removal procedures may not have been
thorough enough. See MVP Jim Eshelman's Spyware Quick Fix page at
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm and follow the steps he presribes.
You might also want to try the Beta version of Microsoft's Antispyware
from
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx
Please be aware that this is a Beta product and the definition of beta
is "too full of bugs to be released".
Good luck
