WIN XP PRO (administration privileges)
Posted by A Teuchter on December 21st, 2003

All computers at work have a new WIN XP PRO operating system.

Unfortunately when I want to load my old stuff I get a window 'Access is
denied you must be logged on with administration privileges to run setup.'

Are there any ways I can bypass this and do my own thing?

TIA

'old stuff' = unauthorized software, warez, games, etc.??

Your firms IT support dept is doing it's job correctly by not allowing you
admin privileges.

'own thing' and screw-up the system, see the recent thread entitled 'HELP
!!!!!!!'

The idea of having (or rather, *not* having) Admin rights on a works computer,
is to stop people doing their "own thing" with property that doesn't belong to
them.
If you boss is ok about you doing your "own thing" with the company equipment,
get him to give your User Profile admin rights.

1. See the message you posted.
2. I hope not.
3. Speak to your IT department.
4. It's not your equipment.

As for myself, any call that starts - It works at home / I only changed
/ swapped / moved / disconnected / downloaded / patched goes to the end
of the queue.

There is nothing righteous about telling someone that they risk losing their job
because of the way in which they have abused the office equipment, and believe
me, your employer will see it as abuse.
The reason you are locked out of admin rights is to stop you from doing exactly
what you are trying to do.
Live with it.

What was wrong with Brian's answer? He told you exactly what you need to
do...

Quite right as well, when supporting 3000+ systems what do you fix first

Ah a new group moderator. If you can't read that's an issue you have to
deal with. If you didn't see the good answers already posted mainly -

It's not your equipment, contact your IT department.

Your 1st post gave all the info necessary - requires an admin account.
To access an admin account you need the password. To add admin rights to
a plain account you need an admin account that requires the admin
password.

like yours.

You already posted your own answer -
" window 'Access is denied you must be logged on with administration
privileges to run setup.' "

Only your system admin will know the admin password.
