Windows XP is pretty much "Windows 2000 Second Edition".

The major differences between the two would be:
- better support for multimedia and gaming in XP
- better support for specialized accessories and peripherals in XP.
- substantially increased requirements for RAM, CPU Speed, and hard
drive space in XP.

I prefer XP because it is better suited to many of the things that I
use the computer for. Windows 2000 is much more of a "strictly
business use" type of operating system.

Also there is zero difference in performance or stability between XP
Home and XP Pro. The two are produced from the same source code base
and the differences are that Pro contains some components and
capabilities that are not included in XP Home. So unless you have a
specific or anticipated need for at least one of those items that are
unique to the Pro version there is absolutely no reason to spend the
extra money on it. Much better to get the Home version and put the
price difference into additional RAM or a larger hard drive.

Good luck

Perhaps there's something to say in favour of Win2000, in that case :-)
