- Windows 2000 command line
- Posted by Jeff Galli on December 14th, 2003
Hi,
Whenever I try to execute a command line program in Windows 2000, the
command line will flash on the screen for a split second and disappear. I
can get a stable command line to come up by going to "Run" and using
cmd.exe, but this is unhelpful because I need a command line program running
by essentially double-clicking it. It's something that eventually will be
opened by another program which doesn't know how to go to use Run --->
cmd.exe.
Thank you for any help you can give me. I hope I explained my problem
clearly.
Take care.

That's normal. It runs the command then quits. What ever the command is you
ran is probably still running but whatever you run from the run box is not a
command to open the command window like cmd.exe. Try using a batch file.

When a command=line progam finnishes, the window it runs in closes - and
unless you have photographic recall, you loose all the data. If you do like
Brian said (above) and type the command into an open command-line window,
you get to see the result.

Huh? If the other program opens it, then it's up to the other
program to either keep the shell open, or extract what it wants.
But for what you want, two ways - one is set the shortcut to the
..EXE file to NOT close automatically when finished.
The other is to set the "Command Prompt" shortcut in the START menu
to not close automatically.
Not really - I'm not sure why what you describe would cause a
problem in something else shelling out and calling a command line program.
