Make absolutely certain that your date, time and time zone settings
are correct and try the update site again.

I used to use ME a few weeks ago until I upgraded to XP. Its worth it. ME
is really slow and featureless compared to XP.
There may be some teething problems if you are a games player as some games
might not work. Or you might run into some other difficulties if you are not
computer savvy. But its nothing that can't be fixed over a weekend.
My only grouch is that Bill Gates should probably have spent a bit more
money on providing help and resources for the lonely upgrader to use who
runs into a hitch. But I guess you can alway pose your questions to this
newsgroup.

If I understand you correctly... after you formatted you installed 98 then
installed ME. Why in the world would you do that? Even if ME is an upgrade
you can still do a clean install of it without installing 98 first. Not
that this has anything to do with your problem but the way you installed the
OS can't help any.
When you install ME next time... just install ME (start the computer with
the disk in the drive). Then at some point it will ask you for the 98 CD to
verify that you do have 98 to upgrade from (providing that it is an
upgrade). Then after it's done verifying it will ask for the ME disk again.
Isn't that much simpler? :-)

Get rid of ME, it's horrible, don't upgrade to XP it's almost worse, it's
a disease that should not be used by home users! *cough* NT *cough*
Just reinstall 98SE (or linux if you think you can handle it), set your
clock back to 2k3, then go to the windows update site, there'll be updates
waiting for you
