Silly question;

Does formatting erase the registry as well?

Just thought I'd ask.

Yes, It essentially erases everything on the partition. Why?

No. Formatting doesn't erase any files. All it does is format thus
making the space where your files are to be availble to be overwrittin
with new data.

Since formatting erases everything on the hard drive and Window's registry
was developed as you added programs to Windows and did other activities that
involved the registry all of the info there will be erased. But since you
will have to reinstall your programs it doesn't much matter.

For all practical purposes it's true.

Of course for the average person, a format or fdisk will make the files
unavailable.
One can do a simple test tho. Format/fidsk whatever lets say on a 40 gig
drive. Then do an image of it. Guess what, you'll have a 40 gig image.
All fdisk/format does is make the space available for files/data to
overwrite your previous data.
