- windows updates. icon hides!
- Posted by jils on December 23rd, 2005
my windows (xp) updates are set to automatic, so occasionally a small
reminder message appears in the lower right hand corner, saying windows
updates are ready to install, click here ...
if i'm not quick enough to "click here", the reminder slides down behind
the taksbar, leaving no trace.
how can i find these updates and install them, except by waiting for the
reminder to appear again?
please help, this is frustrating!

The balloon message is pointing at the windows update icon in the
systray. Click on that icon; it doesn't matter if the balloon is still
there or not.

customize your taskbar and tell it to not "hide idle symbols".
Every OS can have features which appear to work fine for one purpose but
don't for another or just for someone. A good OS is flexible and
customizable, and open enough so you or someone with knowledge can code the
suggestion you make and that's not yet there.

In the Control Panel, open Auto updates
At the bottom if you click on "offer updates again..." you might get
another chance.
