WindowsME System Restore Questions

What are the benefits or disadvantages of disabling System Restore on a
WinME machine?

I've never used it and was thinking about disabling it and was wondering
if there are any points/issues I need to consider before doing it.

To permanently disable the feature, do I only have to go under settings
and put a checkmark by "disable system restore" ? Do I also have to
uncheck anything under startup in msconfig or any other system
adjustments?

Thanks!

Not really.

It can and does work very well.

It is not totally without flaws and it does require some periodic
checking and the occasional test, just as you should do with any
backup or recovery procedure.
