- WindowsME and word problem
- Posted by Johnny on September 27th, 2003
Here is my problem. PC is running WindowsME.
I burnt all of my files to a CD. Then I used the restore disk that
came with my pc and did a complete format and clean install with the
disk.
Then I copied all the files (word and excel doc's back over to the new
install.) Then I installed the printer divers for my printer.
Now I get the error "spool32.dll or spool.dll has caused a invaild
page fault in kernal32.dll" I think those are the right names. Then
it is reboot or no printing at all.
As for the word errors, when I open one of the files I copied back to
the new install, it says its a read only file and I cannot save it.
What's up with that?
I was thinking about just doing a claen install of windows2000 pro and
being done with it. This is a HP pc. I cannot recall the model
number.
Any thoughts.

Usually, spool32 refers to a printer problem.
Be sure that your documents are not write protected (check with
"proprieties") because they are restored from a CD.

Sounds like you overwrote W2K DLLs with WinMe DLLs.

How to Troubleshoot Spool32 Error Messages
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=191949
When you copy (back up) files to CD, they are automatically
set to 'Read only'. When you copy them back to the hard
drive, you should make sure that you set them for write
access by right clicking on them, choosing 'Properties' and
removing the check mark from 'Read only'.

Remember that removing the read only attribute is only sensible
on files that actually need to be written to. This would apply to
virtually all documents etc. but may not apply to other types.
