- WinXP/App Problem

Experiencing a really strange problem. I have a small home network consising
of three computers connected via a Linksys WR54G router. System A runs WinXP
Pro sp2, System B runs Win2k sp4 and system C runs WinXP Home sp2. On "A"
simple file sharing is disabled. System "A" was running Win2k but I
corrupted the boot drive and reinstalled with XPPro after deleating the boot
partition and then re-partitioning/formatting it.
System "B" has a copy of Quicken 2001 Basic installed but it backs up and
restores to "A". I've been using this process for several years now without
problem. Since installing WinXP on system "A", Quicken refuses to restore
from system "A" but if I move those same files to system "C", it will
restore.
I've seen this type of failure before. It's usually caused by files that are
write protected such as what happens when you copy a file off a CD and the
read bit is still set.
In this case, the group "everyone" has full control but I notice I can't
remove the Read bit. If I right click on the file and chhose properties I
can see the read bit is set. sorta. The check box has the check mark and it
appears somewhat washed out. the white backgroung appears a bit grey. Just a
bit. Not quite like when an option is "greyed out" but almost. Oddly enough,
I can un-check it, then apply the settings and close the properties window.
When I open properties again, it's back. This strange behavior soesn't seem
to affect anything else as I can use notepad to modify files just fine but
Quicken seems to think the read bit is set.
Not sure this is an OS problem or a Quicken problem and surely don't know
what to do about it.
