- WinXP Home SP2 Logs on then Logs off

I've got a WinXP Home SP2 machine that first refused to logon on any
account, after using EBCD password recovery cd, I was able to get to
get
login prompt to work, however, it starts to logon, then it logs off, i
see
the wallpaper, but no icons or anything that far. Any ideas?
Any ideas?

It's an activated version. If it wasn't, in my experience, winxp
gives you a "must activate to continue" message rather than just
logging off. I've seen a few things about a explorer link in the
registry, yet I can't seem to find the key.
