WinXP wont start after hardware change
Posted by Baaf on September 21st, 2005

Hi,

I changed the Mobo and processor on a WinXP system and now the PC wont load
Windows.
Do I need to reinstall or is there a workaround?
Any help would be appreciated

hardware, but this needs to be done prior to starting windows with ur
new mainboard installed.
Ps this doesn't happen with retail or corperate windows- Just oem /
copies etc. (bit of advise if you want to absorbe.

FYI, It does happen with the corporate version of XP, every time I've
moved my Hard Drive to a different machine I've had to run a repair of
the XP OS; Win98 on the other hand just asks for new drivers and goes
about it's business

supplied mobo support cd _before_ you do that. I know it's impossible to do
if your old mobo suddenly died. You will have to reactivate your copy,
unless it's a corporate version.
To avoid such problems in the future, use linux instead (and run windows
programs from within linux using wine, crossover, win4lin or vmware
standard portable vms).
