- XP - Clearing out backed up files
- Posted by Nozza on January 27th, 2005
I upgraded to XP SP2 some time ago - and at the time it backed up all
the files the upgrade was going to upgrade.
How do I go about deleting al these files?
Any other hints or tips for improving disk space and/or performance on
my laptop gratefully received

First, delete the folder: \Windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$
Next, go to Add\Remove Programs and attempt to
remove SP2. This will fail but you get the choice to remove
it from Add\Remove Programs.
Use 'Disk Cleanup' and choose 'More Options'. Remove
all but the most recent restore point.
If it exists, delete the folder: \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
Back up your setup files and delete them from the HD.
Do *NOT* delete the folder: \Windows\ServicePackFiles
