XP Home multiple installations
Posted by John and Pat on November 26th, 2003

It seems to me that I have read it is possible to install more than one
instance of XP Home on different drive partitions. I cannot remember how to
do it though and if I boot from the CD then I only have the options of a
repair install or new install on the same partition as the existing XP Home
OS. If I boot into XP Home and then insert the XP CD, can I pick another
partition to install another copy of XP Home? For those curious about my
reasoning, I need another XP Home OS on another partition so that I can test
out updates and do diagnostics. Thanks for any info.

Regards,
John O.

Why not just use the System Restore function? if an update doesn't work,
restore the System!

Check the 10th screenshot. You should see this screen if you already
have a XP install.
If you have already set up an additional drive or partitions you should
be able to choose as shown on the previous screenshot.
Are you using a generic type OEM disk or retail (rather than a modified
for C: only install)? If not then you may need to copy the I386 folder
to disk.
