XP Hotfix prevents boot up?
Posted by Precinct on August 19th, 2003

After a close encounter with that pesky Blaster worm on the 16th of august,
i decided a reformat and reinstall of XP was in order. Everything went
smoothly but everytime i update with the Windows XP (sp2) Q329115 security
patch (which deals with identity spoofing) my PC wont boot up. When i power
on, the usual screens fly by but just as the Windows logo should appear, a
blue screen with some error info flashes before my eyes for about 1/10th of
a second ( i cant make any of it out) and the machine restarts and the same
happens ad infinitum. Starting in safe mode and erasing the Hotfix does the
trick. Should i just ignore the patch?
I should also point out i recently flashed my bios (Asus A7A266) to the
latest version so i could order a faster CPU. Could this have caused
problems?
