- XP Pro help please, why does my system 32 folder open when windows starts
- Posted by Wizard on January 18th, 2004
Windows XP Professional, Spysweeper, lots of memory and space. 1.8 g
processor etc.
I was downloading mp3s from Limewire when there must have been a virus.
Norton Systemworks caught it and deleted it. (A trojan). Spysweeper then
cleared 15 different adware and spy progs and everything returned to normal.
I then ran a full spyware and virus check and everything is fine.
Now however when I start the pc it starts and opens windows/system32 folder
on the desktop. There is no reference in Startup folder and running msconfig
and looking through everything reveals nothing out of the ordinary.
Can anyone shed any light on this please.
Cheers.

Use hijackthis utility obtained at http://www.spywareinfo.com or direct download with this link http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip and run that. Clean out unknown BHO's and clean up the HKLM, HKCU, and global startup sections.
