XP standalone workstation backup
Posted by Steve Freides on August 2nd, 2004

Someone who works for our company exclusively from home needs to start
backing up his workstation. We called the maker of his computer and
they recommended a USB hard drive. What happened to tape drives? The
workstation has about 300 GB capacity but we're only interested in
backing up critical data and source code, currently about 30 gigs but
will certainly grow.

Can anyone give me a brief overview of what the relatively inexpensive
options (not SCSI) are?

Thanks in advance.

Steve Freides vaguely muttered something like ...
Second hard drive, standard IDE setup.
Network an older, crap, computer with a large hard drive.
Second hard drive in raid configuration. (or third or fourth ... )

Many options, mostly depends on budget ..

your storage(as in the tapes) is secure as well. HD prices are so low
that storing images onto backyp dirves is just as easy and less
expensive. Does this person have access to a secure server to the
office? It sounds like a VPN would move the backup data to the office as
well...

For the price of a 750MB zip drive you could get a 80 GB firewire
HDD..........
