- XP Task tray
- Posted by David Pipe on October 21st, 2007
All of a sudden I am not getting all the icons I want in the task tray even
though they have been set to appear at bootup. The icons are for my
display, my anti-virus program, sound and power settings.
Any (useful) suggestions?

Is there a border bar at the edge of the .. wait .. "task tray"? There
are normally three parts to a Windows bar. The Quick Launch, the area
where there are buttons for open windows and apps, and the Systray
(System Tray) where the clock is.
Anyway, look for a vertical bar next to it, and try to drag it to expand
the area.
Sure. Is the below your "signature?" It should be delimited with
dash-dash-space-return. Like this:

Click the left-pointing chevron on the left-side of the system
notification area (aka system tray) to expand it. If the icons are
hidden, customize the tray to "always show" those icons so they don't
get hidden.

There's another link near the bottom in case the above solution fails:

I don't use quick launch, I do mean the Systray area. And no, when these
items do appear they are set not to hide themselves when inactive.

Hi Dave - Try this. Start|Run, then enter on a single line:
%systemroot%\System32\RUNDLL32.EXE
%systemroot%\System32\user32.dll,UpdatePerUserSyst emParameters ,1 ,True
See if that helps.
