Can I do an XP Repair Install with an ISO Image disk?
Posted by Bill Boylan on November 26th, 2005

I'm replacing a smooth-running installation of Windows XP Professional
because it's "not-genuine".

To save a lot of misery, I've been advised to do a Repair Install instead of
a complete new Clean Install.

Question: To do the "Repair Install" should I buy the new ISO Image disk
which includes SP2 or would I be better off buying the regular old
conventional Windows XP Pro CD?

Are there any final words of advice or caution before I take the plunge? I
don't feel very confident about doing this and would welcome wise words.

Thanks,

Bill Boylan

You need to purchase your copy of Windows XP Pro
from a legitimate source and with a Genuine Microsoft CD!

Example:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Service Pack 2 - OEM

I've got you covered on the Microsoft part: One of these two Microsoft
products will be coming to me directly from Microsoft. They're both genuine.
All I have to do is pick and pay. Microsoft's MSDN Academic Alliance needs
to know which to send: the conventional installation CD or the new Windows
XP Professional ISO Image disk (which also contains 64-bit XP?) You
recommended that I do a "Repair Install." The question is which software
would be best to do that job? I would really appreciate your advice.

Thanks, Bill Boylan

ISO images can be converted to standard CD/DVD using CD/DVD burning software
such as Roxio or Nero. However, as you obviously have the choice go for the
standard CD/DVD.
