Classic search doesn't work where XP search does

XP Pro SP2, indexing turned off

I have three files on my C: drive, PlatformHTMLBindings.xml (in two
locations) and HTMLBindings.xml, according to XP search. They're in
regular folders in the Program Files hierarchy, not hidden or system
folders.

Out of curiosity, I opened TweakUI and selected Explorer -> "Use
classic search in explorer". Then I repeated the search, and it
didn't find any of them! I checked the advanced options and I did
have "subfolders" checked. I tried the seach initially limited to C:,
then let it take the default of all partitions.

In each case I brought up search by Win+F, and the search for
filenames was *bindings*.xml. I didn't enter any "text in file" in
the box.

Any idea what's up?

I myself have trouble relying on this "new" search style. I never turns up
what I need, even though I know it's there. I gave up on it and use a third
party Search Tool. It's faster and I always what I needed.

Which third-party search tool(s) do you use?

PowerDesks - File Finder,
http://www.pcmag.co.uk/vnunet/downlo...8843/powerdesk

Buying it is optional for the extra Features. There is no time limit or adds
for the freeware.
I bought it maybe 8 years ago and still love it.
I think after you use the File Finder, you'll forget all about the Windows
file finder ;-)
