desktop icons revert to default
Posted by Jason on February 27th, 2006

I've changed my desktop icons (my computer, recycle bin) and suddenly they
are reverting back to originals evertime I restart the machine. Can you help?
They stayed customized for several years till now.
I did search the db with no success.

Try this:

Start -> Run -> Regedit

Navigate to:
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ex plorer\Clsid"
(HKCU = HKEY_CLASSES_CURRENT_USER)

Right-click the folder icon for this key & select 'Permissions'

Click 'Advanced' -> click 'Add' -> type "System" -> click 'OK'

Put a check in the 'Deny' column for the 'Set Value' permission.

'OK' your way out.
