Fast User Switch won't "stick" between restarts
Posted by europa-user on March 11th, 2006

I can set fast user switching and it will allow between 2 accounts I have on
my system - but this feature is not retained when I restart the system. I
have to go back into User Accounts etc and set the flag again.

Click Start, Run and type Services.msc
Double-click "Terminal Services" from the list
Set it's Startup type to "Manual"
Close Services.msc applet and restart Windows.

Now, try enabling Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching.

I tried your suggested procedure. "Terminal Services" already had a startup
type of "Manual". Any other suggestions?

It says Terminal Services is "Started" - just like many of the other services.

If you have Windows XP Professional installed, you may see which application
is turning FUS off.

How to use Group Policy to configure auditing of Windows registry keys in XP
Professional?:
http://www.winxptutor.com/auditreg.htm

The registry key is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \
Winlogon

Value name is "AllowMultipleTSSessions"
