how do i kill that error beep?
Posted by jeff fro on October 6th, 2005

How do I kill that freakin annoying error beep? u know the 1 I'm talkin
about? If u go and make a new post, and in the subject line.....use the
arrow to backspace....and when ur as far as u can go....that's the beep. It
happens all over windows. And on my late night comp sessions....i want to
put my foot up my comps butt. Will some 1 help prolong my comps life ...and
save me from ruining a pair of shoes or bodily
injury?!?.............thanks..fro

You go to the "Sounds and Audio Devices" section of your Control Panel and
the "Sounds" tab and click to remove the little speaker icon from next to
the "Critical Stop" line. You can uncheck all the icons and have a mute
machine. Or you can download a .wav file of Homer Simpson going "Doh" and
replace the annoying ding with that.

Exactly!!.......But that didn't work. I chose no sounds as my sound
scheme....and when I highlight critical stop or n e thing else on that
list....there's no speaker next to it...but yet that beep continues. U know
what? The more it annoys me...the more things that I do to make it beep....
Would it be that thing on the mother board thats cylindrical with a hole on
the top with the word buzz printed on the board next to it?

Double click on the speaker icon.
One of the contollable items is "PC Beep". Mute that.

Can you tell me WHERE I could get a Homer Simpson "DOH" .wav file? Or was
this just an idea for replacing the beep?
Thanks,
Glenda

Just Google .wav and you will get many sites that have free wave files. You
may have to search a few to find just the right "Doh", but I am sure you
will find one real fast. I don't have a "Doh" in my collection, but I know
I've seen them. I use Looney Tunes, Matrix ,and Star Trek sound bites.
Whenever my daughter logs on to her user profile she gets: "You think you
are special, Mr. Anderson. You think the rules do not apply to you.
Obviously, you are mistaken".

here is the Homer DOH! page if anyone else wants it.
The single DOH is about halfway down the page.
