Take a look at this article.
Internet Explorer 7 Desktop icon missing
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555849
If that doesn't help, you might want to post your question to the
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general newsgroup or the SP3 forum.

Good luck

Following clean install of slipstreamed WinXP Pro SP3, no option to show
Internet Explorer
icon on desktop under Display Properies>Desktop>Customize Desktop.
Is this by design and, if so, is there a "fix" to get IE icon on desktop so
when right-click can view
IE Properties? If just create an IE desktop shortcut, can't view
properties.
Tx for any info.

Following up on my earlier response, it looks like the author of that Microsoft
article left out a few details.
Try this instead, open the Registry Editor, Start -> Run regedit.exe. Navigate
to the following location
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel
In the right hand pane, right click and select New -> Dword Value.
Rename the new value {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} with a data value 0.
Close the registry editor and hit the F5 key to refresh the desktop.
Good luck

Yeah, I just noticed that and posted a follow up response. Glad to hear you were
able to work around that problem and restore the IE icon.

Excellent - Followed instructions in your 1st link. Didn't have key number
mentioned
in article, so created it and set value at 0. Now have IE7 icon back on
desktop.
Many thanks for your quick response and help..
