IE7 won't conect toFTP address
Posted by Trevor L. on February 7th, 2006

IN IE6 I set up a shortcut to open IE6 at the address
ftp://ftp.homemail.com.au/

After installing IE6, this no longer works

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
a.. You are not connected to the Internet.
b.. The website is encountering problems.
c.. There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to
make sure you are connected.
Retype the address.
Go back to the previous page.
More information
This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

a.. Internet connectivity has been lost.
b.. The website is temporarily unavailable.
c.. The Domain Name Server is not reachable.
d.. The Domain Name Server does not have a listing for the website's
domain.
e.. If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click tools, click
Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS
protocols are enabled under the security section.

None of these causes is true

There is no error in the address (it was in a shortcut)
I am connected to the Internet
The server is live (I connected via an FTP program)

It was easy to copy files via IE, so I don't want to lose this facility.

What did IE7 do wrong?

IE 7 is beta software, which may not work properly yet.
For help with beta software, visit a betatester's newsgroup.

The implication is that IE6 does work properly in every respect?

OK I uninstalled it.

I wonder whether Microsoft will notify users when IE7 is no longer Beta

Perhaps I'll post to another NG, or just stick with IE6. Better the devil
you know .........
