Windows XP Pro is truly overflowing with fonts.
I currently have 1,537 of them -- taking up 208 MB.

How do you know which ones can be safely deleted?
Several of my fonts appear in all capital letters. Are those the symbol
fonts? If so, those would be my first choice to drop. How many symbol
fonts does Windows really need, and how can we tell by looking at a
particular font if it is needed by one or more installed programs?

One utility that might help (though it's of limited usefulness if
you've already moved all those fonts into the %WinDir%\Fonts folder)
is this cute little free font renamer:
<http://www.styopkin.com/free_font_renamer.html>
Give it a directory (except the default fonts directory) and it will
rename *all* the font files in that directory to a meaningul name
based on the name of the font.
It's one of those little things that makes you go d'oh! Why didn't I
write that?
