this ad says capture in real time, is that done on the chip or with software
using the cpu?
anyone know this cards capabilities?
Thanks,
If this works well, then I'm thinking someone can capture in DV from digital
camera, edit and then send back to the dv camera to save on tape, then
recapture the edited version in realtime back to pc as an mpeg for dvd
creation.
This would save on the encoding time after editing, no?

Try clicking on the usb capture devices link and look at other options
such as the ADS capture device for other than DV since most dv cameras
use Firewire connections and you can buy a PCI firewire card for a few
dollars.

I just started reading the forums again these last few weeks, glad to see
you're still active on here.

I can't quite make-out the chip in the photos on
that site, and what the chipset is, was not mentioned.
It looks like it might be a Philips chip, if so they make
great A/D conversion chips (the SAA7000 series), so
it could be a great front-end for Software Real Time
Encoding. I would find out the chip used, and check it
out at the chip maker's site. (the Philips site has very
good descriptions of their chips)
One thing that would raise some concern is the lack
of audio inputs on the card. It shouldn't be a problem
anymore, with the way audio is handled on up-to-date
systems; still it would make me nervous.
If the Adaptec VideOh! PCI card they are selling were
really the AVC-2000 with the Broadcom Kfir-II and
Philips SAA7114H chips - shown in all the pictures;
I would most definitely recommend that (as that is what has
been so successful for me). Unfortunately, they are most
likely shipping the AVC-2010 which uses a Conxant
chipset.
Luck;
Ken
P.S. If you can get a AVC-2000, be sure to get
"Movie Mill" from V-One Multimedia to capture
with.
