There was once a talented young programmer who frequented these
groups. Apparently there were some off-newsgroup comments made to him
and he left. He reappeared on the MA forums.
He wrote a small program that allowed the MA to run under all other
open windows so that it worked as a desktop background.
A screen shot was posted on the MA forum showing the MA running behind
a bunch of DX objects. Jim Sachs, the MA author, expressed his
unhappiness with such use of his artwork. The young, talented,
programmer then requested that his program not be distributed any
longer and disappeared in a huff.
The program to allow the MA to run under all other open windows was
not quite complete. It worked very well, but still had a couple of
small problems. But, it's never been finished.
So it would be possible to do if some one would write a program to
make it possible.
I will let you know that you can't run very many DX objects at the
same time as the MA. The MA and DX frame rate begins to suffer.

Darrell, right? Yes. I read all about it at serene screen forum...
Would You be so kind and share that app with me (other people)? I don't know
jack about programming and if I don't get it as a finished (semi-finished)
app, I'll never make one myself. I got the feeling everyone except Jim
encourages people to make this sort of app (making some plug-in for desktopX
?) so I don't think it would be such a moral or whatever issue whether to
let it out in the open or not. Thanks for considering

Yes, he's the one.
Sorry, I can't (won't). Darrell asked that his program not be
distributed and I feel obligated to honor that request. There are
probably copyright issues as well.
I'm less concerned with Jim's desire not to have his work run as the
desktop wall paper. Once I buy a software product as long as I don't
violate the licence agreement I can do anything with it I want on my
own computer.
I understand Jim's feelings about protecting his "art". However, if I
buy a copy of the Mona Lisa and want to paint a mustache on it, I can.
Hopefully, someone else will write a program to allow the MA, and
other screen savers, to be used as wall paper. At one time Stardock
said they would have a product, or one of their other products would
provide the capability, to use screen savers as wall paper.
