- Battery for a new Sony DCR-DVD108
- Posted by Gene on April 19th, 2007
We purchased a new Sony DCR-DVD108 camcorder that uses
the Sony NP-FH40 and larger batteries. (InfoLithium "H" series)
I like to carry a lot of batteries, but these "H" batteries from Sony will
cost more than the little camera!!!
QUESTIONS:
1. Anyone know of a source of batteries, that are not Sony, and less
expensive?
2. Will the older NP-FP71, or NP-FP70 work in this Sony DCR-DVD108
camcorder.
3. Is there a tiny plastic gizmo that will let me charge the new NP-FH40s,
etc. from
something like an older InfoLithium "M" series battery in the field?
BTW - the quality is not as good as MiniDV, as you would expect, but it's
not a bad
way to get an hour of video burned to a cheap DVD-R. You can carry a LOT of
the tiny DVD discs, a lot easier than tape to get to the larger DVD-Rs.
(Shoot on RWs, then copy & re-use the tiny DVD+RWs/1.4GB.)
THANKS,
Gene

I went by Best Buy yesterday & looked at the older NP-FP71
battery and the new NP-FH100. It appears that the newer "H"
will work in the newer camcorders as well as in the older ones.
however, the older "P" series will ONLY work in the older camcorders.
There is a difference in the plastic connectors that prevent the older
"P" series batteries from physically attaching to the newer camcorders.
QUESTION: other than the plastic shape of the older "P" series batteries,
are there other material improvements or differences between the two
batteries?
That is, why did Sony come out with a different battery? LOL - I understand
that
Sony makes a lot more money with the newer battery as Sony seems to be
the only source for the new "H" series - but is there a difference in the
physical
or electrical design of the two batteries? It is odd that there are not
aftermarket
"H" series batteries for sale on the internet - so there must be a real
difference in
the two battery deigns...?
THANKS,
Gene

Is there someone out there that can explain the
"ActiFORCE technology" in the new Sony NP-FH70
camcorder battery & how it is different from the older
NP-FP70 or 71 camcorder battery?
Thanks,
Gene
