- Can Womble rearrange segments of files into a different order?
- Posted by GaryT on September 21st, 2007
Here is the history:
Original 8mm reel to reel tape of family members taken in the 60's was later
converted to VHS. The tapes are no longer available.
VHS was later converted to DVD.
I now have the .VOB files (five of them) from the DVD, but no access to the
VHS.
When the VHS was made, much of the original footage was broken up into
smaller clips, placed in a different order and set to (sappy) music. I want
to cut up the VOB/MPG files and move them around to regenerate as closely as
possible the original blocks of footage, in much the same way as moving
clips in a typical NLE. In that way I can put together segments pertaining
to specific individuals. I also want to trash the music and create a new
audio track with narration, for the great grandkids and beyond who never met
the people in the movie. AND of course I want to do all this without
creating additional degradation.
I am hoping a MPEG editor such as Womble or VideoReDo will allow me to in
essence cut and paste what I want from the 5 VOB files and create one
master. (I know they can cut out segments such as commercials but I need to
change order) Then I need to add new sound and author into a new DVD. I have
downloaded the Womble trial but waiting for advice whether it will do the
trick before installing. If additional tools are needed, please suggest, but
as this is probably a one-time project I would like to limit my software
expenditure.
Thanks,
GaryT

in Womble or go to their web page and read the blurb on the product. Womble
won't re-encode the VOB files if you output the edited file as a MPEG2
format (just use the automatic button on the export screen so there is no
degradation.
You can selectively mute the existing sound track and lay extra sounds on
the 2 sound timelines. If you want elements of the original sound you could
use a Womble item from the tools menu to demux the VOB files into separate
video and audio tracks and then you could do classic 'double system'
editing.
Go to www.videohelp.com for some guides on "how to" also they have a good
listing of free, shareware and payware programs.

U need utility like 'WinAvi Video Convertor' which can convert .vob

Gary
You can import one or all of the .vob files directly into Womble from your
DVD and then cut, paste, rearrange or delete any cut segments as you wish.
You can mute the 'sappy' audio, which is embedded in the video on the Womble
timeline (right click/Audio/Mute), and add music (narration will require
other software) and then create a new DVD in Womble if you downloaded MPEG
Video Wizard DVD . If you just downloaded MPEG Video Wizard you will need
other software to create your DVD from the MPEG that Womble creates.

Thanks for the info. I did read the blurb on the web site, and could see how
it would remove things such as commercials, but I was still unclear if it
would only cut parts and close up the gaps, leaving the original sequence
intact, or if it could shuffle sections around.
