Hi,
I have a Dell Precision 490 workstation, Canopus ADVC110 external
unit, and the Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 software. I am having contant
problems. This setup runs very unstable. There is no one particular
error to report. I use the Canopus unit to output to a 13 inch TV in
Premiere Pro 2.0. First, I have to plug in and out serveral times the
Firewire cable to get it to sync to the TV. And if that does not work
I try enabling/disabling the Playback Settings in Premiere. Then it
works for a while just fine untill premiere Pro crashes with an error
merrage. Also sometimes Premiere Pro grinds to a hault during running
the time line. ie: sluggish. And immeditately after unplugging the
Canopus unit from my PC Premiere runs just fine again. I thought the
Premiere Pro crashing problem was do to the Canopus unit but no such
luck. Premiere Pro crashes even without the Canopus unit plugged in.
Sometime Premiere just closes without any error message when I am
converting video through the Canopus and I have to start all over
again.
I went to Microsofts site and it explains how to disable all the
drivers, services, etc. to make our PCs run better with Adobe Premiere
Pro. This seems to help a little. My PC seems to be a little more
responsive mainly because Premiere Pro has more memory to work with.
I have 4 gig RAM and I thought that amount would be enough. Premiere
Pro seems to consume an excessive amount of memory and then errors say
something like getting close to running out of memory. I am only
using VHS-C video.
I called Canopus and they explained that there is a problem with the
Fireware port and the Dells, I think they said. Anyway they gave me a
patch but that did not work.
Are there any settings I would need to change in Premiere Pro to help
this problem? Has anyone else been have simular problems and does
Premiere Pro 3.0/CS correct these issues? That is my other thought.
Any suggestions or any comments will be appreciated,
John
