Changing video bit rate in Vegas Video?
Posted by Brian on February 26th, 2004

When I want to render a video that I have captured with Vegas Video I
select Render as then select "Main Concept Mpeg-2" as it seems to be
the only Mpeg2 option. I choose DVD PAL as the template.

I can't find any way of changing the video bit rate which is set to
8000 Kbps. If I click on the "Custom" button nothing happens.

Also when I render the file with these settings, then burn it on DVD
using Ulead DVD movie factory, I can't hear any sound when playing the
video on my DVD Player. The audio settings are, in the Mpeg2 option,
224 Kbps 48,000 Layer 2.

If I render the video as Mpeg1and save the file as VCD then I can hear
the sound on my DVD Player.

Hoping someone can help me.

Why this reply is somewhat basic are you SURE your DVD player will play
'home burnt' DVD's of the type of media you are using?

I had exactly the same problem and found that my DVD player would not
play DVD-R's!

Bought a new player and all was OK.

I used exactly the same settings as you used.

After you select "Custom", the screen template will have "Project -
Video -Advanced Video - Audio - System". Select the "Video" tab and you'll
see what you're looking for.

Go over to the "Audio" tab of the screen mentioned above and make sure the
"Include audio stream" box is selected.
FWIW, I always render out the video and AC3 audio separately - but then I
have DVD Architect which handles AC3 audio. HTH.
