- Digital channels with TV tuner for PC?
- Posted by wizzzer@hotmail.com on November 30th, 2005
If I get a TV tuner card like all-in-wonder for my PC, can I get the
digital off-the-air channels, or do you only get the analog signal
channels?

Do you require a Cable box to get the digital channels on your TV? If
so, then you tv tuner card is not going to collected the signals unless
it is coming from the cable box.

No, I would like to get digital channels by using my roof antenna.
I don't have cable or satellite.

Although I have not purchased or used one myself, there are some tv
tuner cards that are made to receive HDTV off the air (ATI makes one
called the HDTV wonder). I believe that most cards do not have the
ability to receive HDTV signals however, and it is rare enough that the
card will explicitely state it and market it (ie- if you are looking at
a card and there is some question as to whether it will get high
definition signal, it probably doesn't). I don't know how well these
cards work and would be interested in hearing from others here who have
used them.

Typical, normal ATI All-in-wonder and other winTV cards will only get
analog broadcasts - none of the new HDTV/digital signals.

The original poster didn't state where he lives. There are two major
digital tv standards (DVB and ATSC), so the correct type of the card
depends on the country. In Europe and Australia, he would need a
DVB-T card, such as one of these:
