- Do I need a graphics card and capture card
- Posted by aceface10810 on October 16th, 2004
I am busy building up a system using a Gigabyte board with a sis 655 chipset
800 mhz FSB on board IEEE 1394 Dual DDR 400, 1024 GB ram and need some
advise on the graphics card, the card that I am considering the "Gigabyte
ATI Radeon 9600XT 256 Meg on board ram with VIVO - DVI with TV out - and
dual monitor support" now will I be able to edit and preview in real time
with this graphics card or do I have to buy one of these fancy capture
cards, I am going to use Studio 8 to edit with, I am very new to this and
have searched the net for a answer and have become more confused, the camera
that I have just purchased is the Sony Digital 8 DCR TRV 355E
Your advice will be greatly appreciated
Thank you
al.

To capture from a D8 camcorder you will use the Firewire (IEEE 1394)
connection. You do not need the VIVO feature to capture unless you want to
use an external VCR etc.

Did you need the backwards compatibility with Hi-8? If not, see if
you can take it back and swap for a DV camera.
Either way, video capture is via Firewire. You don't need a clever
video card at all.
