- Does DirectX 9.0 cause problems?

Hello,
Just bought latest version of Nero 6 and during installation it says
that DirectX 9 will be installed. I'm running Win98se with DirectX 8.1
now and things are fine and I don't want to screw things up. So I
cancelled the installation of Nero for now until I learn more.
Would appreciate comments from anyone on pros and cons of installing
DirectX 9. Can it be uninstalled?
