- DSR20 auto off timer defeat?
- Posted by Sean McHenry on October 3rd, 2003
Trying to make a 1 and a half hour dub going through a DSR20 as a
transcoder. It times out about every 20 minutes. Is there a defeat
for this. Borrowed the deck from work but didn't grab the manual.

You could always stick a tape in the deck and put it into record...

I do that all the time.
Mine has never timed out.

the DSR20 has a timeout . It will shut off after the timeout period.

or you have some magic!
or.. you just never actually let it run that long.. although I think if you
are in PAUSE it will sit there for ever and stay on.. something I never do
if I can help it.

I've done hundreds of hours of dubbing directly from the timeline to
my stack of VHS dubbing decks (via a distribution amp). DSR-20
just sits there and transcodes (out only, not in :-( all day and all
night. Power on. No tape. Stop mode (duh!)
Same experience with the DSR-20 at the office. Dunno what to say?

Maybe the auto off "feature" was added or removed at some point during the
DSR-20's production run. Mine has no auto off "feature." It stays on until I
turn it off.

How old is your DSR20?
Mine are both from pretty early in its production run.
Your theory makes sense to me.
