DVD Moviefactory - Import from DVD
Posted by NotMyRealName on September 6th, 2007

I have DVD MovieFactory for Toshiba ver 5, as delivered on my Toshiba
Satellite running Vista Home Premium. I try to import a DVD I created
myself on a DVR. I select "Import DVD-Video or DVD-VR from a disc or
hard drive". The "Select a DVD Title" dialog opens. I select the DVD
drive and click Import. In the "Import DVD initialization" dialog, the
message says "Parse DVD content.." Then the "Import DVD" dialog
appears. The "Disc label" box contains a tree diagram:
Label:
Title 0
Chapter 0
The Info box contains what looks like valid info for each of these as
I select them. The video preview box is gray. When I press the Play
button, the audio is just fine, but the video consists only of a
various-colored box flashing subtly. The Import button is permanently
inactive.

I have also tried importing from a copy of the VIDEO_TS folder I made
on the hard drive and get the same result. Also, I have tried
importing from a DVD I finalized on a standalone DVD recorder; in this
case I do get video, but the Import button is still inactive.

What am I missing? Happens on DVD-RW and DVD-R disks I finalized on my
standalone DVR or DVD recorder. The Ulead support site (now part of
Corel, apparently) doesn't have any information that seemed relevant.
The MovieFactory help file is too skimpy to be of any use.

Ulead is now on Movie Factory Version 6. You can download a free
trial copy that is good for 30 days. Just don't get updates or
support with trial version. Better still, download Video Studio
Version 11 trial. V 11 is much better and easier to use, I suggest
you download and try that. V5 was OK when it came out, but ....
Strange you would get V5 with current hardware.
