DVD-R vs DVD+R for distribution
Posted by les on March 21st, 2007

Hi.....
Here's the issue.
I have a client with unknown DVD player capability.
They want a solitary DVD pronto from a tape. That's an easy copy.
But, I don't know which format has the least compatibilty problems
for the average consumer-grade DVD player, +R or -R ??

Comments please. Thank you in advance.
Les

According to http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers
DVD-R has a slight edge on DVD+R...

DVD-R: 4302 DVD players support, 290 do not support
DVD+R: 3786 DVD players support, 383 do not support

OTOH, I use Taiyo-Yuden DVD+R and I can't remember
the last time I had a rejected disc.

Generally, for standalone players and all drives (standalone or
computer) newer than 2-3 years, R+. For older computer
drives, R-.

Again those are generalities.

Here's an idea: send him one of each. Tell him why.

At pennies per disk and 15 minutes or less to burn it, you can probably
handle the expense :-)
