- DVD's labeled as 4x won't burn at 4x
- Posted by Doc on June 8th, 2005
I normally burn CD's and DVD's at the slowest possible speed to try to
ensure accuracy. However, just for grins I tried burning what's sold as a 4x
+R DVD (Office Depot in-house brand) on what's supposed to be a 4x dual
format burner, using Nero 6 to see how it did. I set it to detect maximum
speed and find the most it will do is 2.4x. Hmmm....
Other than either the manufacturer of the burner (Digital Research) or the
DVD simply fibbing about their product, what other explanations could there
be?

You may need to update the firmware of your DVD drive. Also, Nero may need
to be updated. My 8X would not write at 8X with a version of Nero I was
using with the 4X drive. I updated Nero and all is well.
