- Er ..... how do I get out of this one?
- Posted by Steve Silverman on July 1st, 2008
I appear to have completely wrecked video playback on my computer. When I
try to play any clip in Windows Media Player/Real Player/Quicktime Player,
all I get is the soundtrack and a blank white screen. I can only imagine
that is something to do with fiddling around blindly and uncomprehendingly
with ffdshow and Hali Media Splitter in an attempt to get widescreen
anamorphic video to display properly. Both of these tools have now been
uninstalled, but the loss of video playback remains. I have absolutely no
idea what I could have done to cause this problem.

Just reinstall your codec-package and if it has an option to reset the
settings, perform that. If you have K-lite, you can do a manual reset
without reinstalling.

Finally cracked it. I had inadvertently changed a setting on my graphics
card via the nVidia control panel.
