I just use whatever is a good value/$$ at my local dealer.
I use raw drives, and a USB2 cable for external drives.

Western Digital or Maxtor or Seagate make a "pro" external drive that has
BOTH USB and eSata output. I believe it cames in 320, 250, and 500Gb
versions.
Makr sure you buy a shieded eSata cable for any length over 1 meter.

In the US, I found this unit
http://www.satacables.com/html/usb2-...sata-raid.html
to be a complete piece of crap, its quality surpassed only by
its utter lack of support. I now use one of these
http://www.datoptic.com/cgi-bin/web....-4e&detail=yes, a
superbly engineered product. The drives are connected two each
to two different PCs.

I'm using this low profile adapter

Depending upon how you configure your SATA ports, the foregoing
with these drives

operates at internal SATA II speeds.
