FCP export image sequence appears darker
Posted by mj_zheng@yahoo.com on April 28th, 2008

I tried exporting image sequence from the Final Cut Pro in .png format
(and also a couple of other formats which all have similar issues,)
then import then back into FCP. The new video appears darker than the
original. Has anybody else had similar experience and knows why and
how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Check out that the range is the same, meaning, video doesn't use the whole
range which RGB does, so if you have a mismatch between what is being
exported and then imported, you can get funny results like this.

It can also be a codec-deficit, but most codecs shouldn't behave like that
anymore (unless it's a bug in the software you use). For instance, when MS
started to implement the DV25-codec, the very first versions made the video
look a lot darker. This got later corrected.

Thanks for the reply. But it made me realize how much I probably
don't know about this.
How do I check the mismatch of ranges? I exported the image sequence
as .png and the only
options it has was what appeared to be how bit-depth for color
representation and I chose the
default 'best Depth'. I used the QuickTime Pro to bind the sequence
together and it played
darker. Where do I check the RGB range? Forgive me if this sounds
ignorant. And thanks.
