Good tool to Convert Raw AVI files from a DV capture to .mov files?
Posted by Chris on April 7th, 2007

Does anyone know of a good conversion tool with a common Codec that
can be played in quicktime. I tried quicktime pro as another post
suggest, but it does not seem to give any options to control the
compression ratios etc. What application would you suggest. (I have
premiere 1.5 pro, but that output to .mov sucks really bad and takes
FOREVER to render). I have seen the job that DivX does on DVD and I
am quite impressed, is there a codec for quicktime files that can
achieve this amazing compression ratio vs. quality.

Thanks in advance.

(p.s. I have H.264 in Premiere, but it SUCKS really bad too)

H.264 comes in many flavors.

What is the target for these video files? Do you want something
for playback on your cell-phone or on a HD Widescreen display?
Or somewhere in between?

Then you should consider an Encoder program. (Unless it's for
the cell-phone, then one of those "Converter" programs would be
good enough.)

Luck;
