Hard Drive Recording
Posted by Joel Crum on July 27th, 2003

Hello All,

I'd like to use my computer (850 MHz Athlon, 26 GB hard drive + 6.4 GB
secondary HD, ATI Radion Allinwonder 8500 DV) as a hard drive recorder. I
don't care if the files get big (2 ~ 3 hours = 4 gig) but I'd rather they
don't get huge (1 hour = 13 gig). Can anyone recommend a good piece of
software?

I've found *great* captures on the binary groups ( alt.binaries.startrek
for example) that pack 45 minutes into something like 400 meg! I believe
the Divx codex is being used; can this be done in real time on my system?

You will need a much faster CPU to accomplish this even at low
resolution.

Realtime DivX processing and writing to disk is not possible even with a
3.0GHz CPU.
