As I understand it, a lot of movies today are shot digitally. I've also seen
things that I later found out were shot on video that to me had the look
that I associate with film. I've always had the perception that video tape,
even professional video like TV news broadcasts and sitcoms that were shot
on video like All In The Family, just has a certain look to it.

So, how do they make digital and certain video look like film?

They spend lots of money on better lighting, sets, costumes,
art direction, actors, technicians, cameras, etc..

Some will say that it is because Digital Cinematography
(HDTV) equipipment operates at 24fps, while others will
argue that the things mentioned above are more important.

Others will jump in and tell you that many movies that have
spent all of this money still turned out to be crap (a valid point,
but it doesn't answer your question).
