- How do you install and use ffmpeg?
- Posted by Doc on April 25th, 2008
I've looked at various sites for ffmpeg but it's not clear to me how
you install and use it. I files called ffmpeg.rev12665.7z ffmpeg-
checkout-snapshot.tar.bz2 FFmpeg-svn-12810.7z
I see there a thing called Avanti that's supposed to give you a GUI
for it but again there's no .exe installation file, there's a file
called avanti-024-package.7z
What am I supposed to do with these files?
Thanks for all input

They are compressed files. Expand them and execute the installer (or
whatever) in them.
You might not have software for tar and gz or bz type files, so find
some - there's got to be a free one somewhere (I hope).
The 7z is, IIRC, a compression scheme used by a compression pro9gram
that is downloadable, and maybe even free.
"Package" makes me think Mac or *nix, however.
Someone with more useful knowledge will probably pipe up soon :-)

He should go back to SourceForge and download the
correct file for his operating system. Or he could get the
K-Lite Codec Pack, it's in that as well.
Luck;
