- How to identify type of DVDR?
- Posted by Ted Kerin on August 11th, 2004
Is there a commonly available way to identify whether a burned disk is
DVDR+, or DVDR-? And, preferably, to see some other details about how it was
made (like resolution and perhaps bitrate)?
I have DVDRs from various sources, and am trying to document what works (or
works well) on my DVD players, and what doesn't.
Sorry if I'm missing something obvious.
Thanks!

Do you have Nero installed on your PC?
I'm 99% sure that the Nero InfoTool will report whether a DVD is DVD -R or
DVD +R.
I have SmartRipper on my PC which i occasionally use to rip a DVD.
It shows detailed info about a DVD including min/max/avg bitrate, resolution
and more.

Thanks, Martin!
I do have Nero, and, I think, SmartRipper.
I felt sure I had been able to see this kind of info at some time, but I
couldn't remember how, or what prog I was using!
Thanks again.

Thanks to all for the helpful replies.
So far, I've used Nero (Express), and found that most disks are just
identified as "DVD-ROM", but that for a few, Nero specifies "Book type -
DVD+R".

Thanks for the recommendation, Kill Bill, and for adding your endorsement,
Anthony.
Nero gave me some basic info, more for some DVDs than for others. I will
check this out.
