How to re-use DivX 1-st step file for another DivX n-th Multipass-step ???

After having encoded a movie with a 2-step DivX procedure (e.g. with VirtualDub)
there are two files existing:

The file after step 1 and the final file after step 2.

Then I had to recognize that the size of file 2 is too large for a CD and I have
to re-encode the whole movie with a lower bitrate (other parameters leave unchanged).

Is there a way to re-use the output of the previous 1-st step encoding for the new
encoding trial?

If yes, how do I tell Divx that the file aabbcc.avi is the output of an old 1-st step
encoding and that DivX can use it as a starting point for a new 2-step Multipass encoding?

I didn't found an entry field for "Use this file as starting point".
Or does DivX detect those files automatically??

file is useless and not needed. so unless you delete the logfile (or
encode another file without changing the name of this file), you can use
it for as much 2nd step encodes as you want.

by the second pass. so if you do not encode any other files with 1st
pass, it won't change and you can use it to encode 2nd pass as often as
you want. the avi file, created by the 1st pass, is useless and can be
deleted. it will not be used for any other encodings
